IDEA: A sound interface that explores the relation of ethnologic, geometric graphics and generative sound synthesis.

WHAT: Inspired by acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine technique based on the insertion and manipulation of needles, this sculptural instrument is designed to control sound elements in real time by fixing specific pins into a spinning disk. Furthermore, its interface design represents an active space where geometrical constellations are being decoded into sound events. The installation is comprised of 99 prepared needles, distance sensor and software using Max/MSP.

WHY: The development of this prototype starts a research process which aims to explore the correlation between geometry, probability and synthesis sound generation, with a focus in performance.
